"Necessity is the mother of invention." ~PlatoIn 2011, I experienced postpartum anxiety and postpartum depression firsthand during the year after the birth of our second child. Two huge environmental factors that exacerbated my emotional state during that time, were the isolation of the long winter and my lack of connection to our community. We moved to Thetford at the end of that very hard year. After such a profoundly life changing experience, I felt a great need to help others feel less isolated and more connected to their community in this period of life. In 2013 another mom and I voluntarily started a library playgroup for families to have a place to connect, and a support group for local moms. Through leading these groups over the past 8+ years, I've come to see the palpable impact of bringing families together to connect and support each other. It has changed so many lives including my own. I felt this especially when we added our third child to our family surrounded by this incredible community!
I am now creating a full-time center for this "kindred village" of ours to connect, share, learn and thrive together! ~Rachael |
